Ever wonder how we create our candles at Kristin & Company? It’s as simple as four steps!
1. Source the Soy
The soy that we use at Kristin & Company is 100% sourced from farmers in the U.S. It’s important to us to support our nation’s economy, plus, cutting down on overseas shipments reduces our carbon footprint and helps global sustainability.
The soy wax flakes that we use in our candles are made from the oil of soybeans. The oil is extracted from soybeans and then hydrogenated to make the extract more solid and turn them into soy flakes.
2. Melt & Mix
The soy flakes are melted then blended with our fine fragrances and mixed thoroughly to ensure beautiful scent throw throughout the life of your candle.
3. Fill Jars
The mixture of soy and scent then gets hand poured into 8oz or 16oz jars by one of our employees in Standish, MI. Once the soy is poured, we let it sit to cool and set.

4. Package Orders and Ship
Once the wax has hardened, the candle is ready to go! We simply add the label and lid and then ship it to its destination.

It’s been a long and stressful week, and the tension is creeping up from your shoulders to your neck and head. By the time you make it home, you’re miserable with a headache.
Most adults will experience a headache from time to time, with the most common being a tension headache. Tension builds up due to stress and heightened emotions, which will cause the contraction of the muscles on your face, neck, and scalp. What can you do to get rid of the pain?
When you’re in the midst of a tension headache it may be hard, but it’s most important to R-E-L-A-X. What’s a better way to relax than setting the mood and lighting a candle? While candles can’t cure chronic headaches, it can help you to unwind and unclench after a long day.
Light one of these candles and relax:
- Blackberry Sage – Perfect blend of sun-ripened blackberries tempered with hints of sage
- Cinnamon Bun – Fresh-baked dough loaded with cinnamon and sugar topped with a sweet glaze
- Eucalyptus – Fresh picked eucalyptus leaves with a hint of cool fresh air and earth woods
- Lavender – Soothing and calming scent of blooming fields of English lavender
- Lavender & Vanilla – Two summer favorites blended to create a refreshing, clean scent
- Lemongrass Sage – Crisp lemongrass, gently blended with the herbal essence of sage
- Rain Drops – Fresh floral fragrance as drops of rain land on a field of jasmine with a hint of grass
- Spiced Clove – Invigorating aroma of freshly ground clove buds
Lighting a candle will undoubtedly set the mood, but be sure to employ other techniques to relax fully. Turn down the lights, prepare a bath or shower, lie on a heating pad, use a cold pack, stay hydrated, or give yourself a scalp massage.

Burning candles can transform your home for any occasion, whether you want a romantic candlelit evening, a relaxing meditation session, or to introduce an alluring scent into your space. But do you know what’s in the candles you bring into your home? At Kristin & Company, our candles are 100% soy wax, unlike many candles on the market that are made of paraffin wax. We use soy for our candles because we understand that burning soy is a healthier option.
Here’s a few reasons why soy is the way to go:
Natural & Environmentally- Friendly
Soy candles are made from soybeans, which are 100% natural, sustainable, and completely biodegradable. Sourcing soy makes us all less reliant on non-renewable crude oils for traditional paraffin wax, meaning better long-term impacts on our environment.
Cleaner, Healthier Burn
Burning paraffin candles creates black soot, which can collect on walls, drapes, and furniture in your home. Besides this unsightly soot, paraffin candles can also release carcinogens, toxic air agents, and even cause headaches for some. Soy candles, however, burn clean with almost no soot or by-products.
Safer At Home
Because soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax, there is less risk of burns if the melted soy wax gets spilled onto skin. They’re also non-toxic since they are made from vegetable oil. This makes soy candles a safer choice for homes with small children or pets. If you do spill some wax, you’ll be delighted to hear that soy wax cleans up with just soap and water.
Longer Lasting Scents
Soy candles can burn anywhere from 35% to over 50% longer than paraffin candles because soy wax has a lower melting point, making it a cooler burning temperature than paraffin wax. Soy also burns more evenly, minimizing the wasted wax left on the sides of the jar. As a bonus, having more of the wax melting means an even stronger scent throw than paraffin candles!

Spring is finally in the air! The days are getting longer and the sun is shining brighter. Now that the sun is revealing the forgotten dust in your home, it’s time to change with the seasons and begin a deep cleaning. What’s the first thing you do before breaking out the broom? Light a candle, of course! Many people burn candles while they clean, as candles can help distract from the pungent odor of cleaning supplies.
Kristin & Company suggests these scents that can help soothe you through your cleaning and bring a fresher scent into your home:

Citrus is already a common ingredient in most household cleaners, so it’s not hard to imagine why people may associate citrus scents with a sense of “clean.” Our blend adds in the scent of fresh basil leaves to take this heavenly scent even further, balancing out the sharper notes of citrus into a more clean and crisp aroma.

This Australian plant is already world famous for its medical properties, but the scent alone is soothing and earthy. Studies have suggested it can be used for relieving sinus issues, coughs, and even inflammation. Eucalyptus oil has also been recommended as an insect repellent, and our soy candles are scented with pure eucalyptus oil. Burning this candle in your home could help deter unwanted pests!

Lavender is one of the most popular essential oils for a reason. This herb is native to the Mediterranean and is known to reduce anxiety, restlessness, headaches, and more. Just the mental image of a field of lavender wafting gently in the breeze feels relaxing. Light up this candle for a mellow mood while you work.

The energizing scent of lemongrass mixed with the calming notes of sage is the perfect combo for a spring cleaning session. Lemongrass kills bacteria and repels insects, while also uplifting your spirit. The practice of burning sage in the home is actually an age-old tradition in some cultures, and has been used to cleanse negative energy from homes and calm strong emotions.

Traditionally, lilacs are an ornamental plant but they also offer a lovely aroma as well as some useful benefits. If you really want to channel the smell of spring into your home, you can’t go wrong with the wonderful smell of lilac. It’s also been shown to have anti-fungal and antibacterial properties and to ease anxiety.

Really, what’s more relaxing than a spring shower? You can bring that scent into your home at any time with our Rain Drops candle. It offers a fresh floral fragrance as if beads of rain passed over a field of jasmine and grass. Jasmine has been found to reduce stress and increase concentration.
